Superbon - Piments

Madrid based crisp makers Superbon enter the scene with this very attractive looking crisp packet which comes with it’s own “parental advisory spicy content” on the back.

Inside we find some very large, super crunchy (kettled?) potato crisps. The potato looks quite natural, with red tinge from the chilli pepper flavouring. They’re nicely salted, just right.

The chilli isn’t completely overpowering, more of a mild paprika chilli that you notice the chilli in the aftertaste. Very welcome to the palette though- a well rounded, natural flavour.

Bravo 👏🏼 🌶

Sarriegui - Gourmet

Imported from Spain for me for Christmas from a good friend!

In general, mainland Europe is nowhere near as adventurous as the UK in terms of crisp flavours. I find they stick to getting the basics right - salted, chive, paprika seem to be very popular.

Whilst I love a wild new flavour, there is definitely something to be said for getting the basics right - and these Sarriegui crisps are a great example of that.

They taste like they've been cooked in a very natural, fresh oil, they have good crunch for a thin crisp without being overly greasy and the salt levels are just right.

They transport me to simpler times, sipping an ice cold San Miguel on a hot Spanish coastline, crunching down on crisps like these and soaking up all the vitamin D.

Found in Barcelona.

Not being a fluent Spanish speaker, I know little of what's written on the front but what's clear is that these are going to be pretty darn hot. There's fire coming out the crisps goddamit!

The crisp is of a new trend - the rolled corn crisp. I've seen it before in Doritos US and a few UK limited flavours. It makes for a real big crunch.

The flavour.. actually isn't that hot!? It's definitely limey... but the chilli is pretty light. A little afterburn in the back of your throat, but I wouldn't put it to being MUY PICANTE. Not impressed with these to be honest. The chilli flavouring isn't very nice or overly spicy. The lime is very artificial and the crisp while it starts real crunchy, leaves a soggy residue in your mouth afterwards. Not recommended.

Aspil’s Mooskys – Cheese flavour

These Mickey Mouse emblazoned crisps are for want of a better phrase, squeakin’ awful. How Disney allowed these snacks to be released I’ll never know. Seriously, I feel a brand reputation class action lawsuit coming on because these cheese flavoured maizey mouthfuls are the pits.

If you like Disney’s mascot then the packaging might please. Or even the shape of the crisps, though they can only loosely be described as Mickey Mouse’s head. They could equally be Scottish bagpipe sack, or mutilated cow’s udder, but the drift of the idea is there I guess. They’re also apparently made with 100% sunflower oil (so that’s nice I suppose) and for those who are affected by such things they are gluten free. But that’s pretty much where the positives about these snacks ends.

Made in Spain but found in Abu Dhabi, these ‘queso’ corn crisps really do give cheese flavoured snacks a bad name. The taste is so artificial and nasty. Off-Milk, Rancid-Cheddar or even Sweaty Socks would have been a more accurate description. I know baked corn goods aren’t everyone’s bag but I have to say I usually do enjoy a good non-potato snack. Not this time though. Still in-date, they tasted dry to the point of staleness. Marketed at kids, in a lightweight bag weighing in at just 8g which really is a blessing in disguise, Mooskys should be cute, fun and a tasty treat for your children. Instead, they’re a bally disgrace. Be gone foul demon!

1.5/10 (and that’s just because I feel sorry for the mouse).

Real Madrid

In the family room of Real Madrid's training grounds - we find Real Madrid's very own crisp.

This seems to be a thing nowdays - football clubs with their own crisps - which is great, but maybe venturing into a flavour would good? This review will be pretty similar to my review of Barcelona's crisps, well they're a bit better.

Pretty standard potato crisps with some salt on them, could do with being a bit thicker.. they are of the quality of the tesco's own value crisps that ended up in my lunchbox as a child, scarring me for life.

This crisps are being modelled by the dashing Roman Kemp.

Can anyone guess where I got these Barcelona football club themed crisps?  I'll give you a clue, it's in Spain.

The novelty of having a football club's crisps.. doesn't make up for shoddy crisp making.

These crisps are as thin as the pack that holds them. Salt and oil levels are fine... but they really have a cheap nothingness in the crunch.

Found in Spain, priding themselves on 'exquisite flavour and crunch'.

Certainly looks classy. The inside is all gold!
Tastes like they've used butter instead of oil. Really rich crisps and nice thick crunch.

They're basically really good ready salted, if a little bit greasy.

Found in Javea, Spain.

Love these!

They're basically nik naks which I love, a great nobbly crunchy corn stick. Flavouring says that it's just natural cheese and although I can't see anything that says so in the ingredients, it feels like I can taste a sweet tomato in it to.Sugar is definitely high. Not sure why they make me think of tomato!
Eaten on a secluded beach only accessible by Kayak. Parfait.

Found in Spain, extra thick ridged crisps, with a sweet BBQ rib flavouring. Exactly the same as walkers BBQ flavouring back home.

Tasty ridged crispy found in Javea, Spain. rich olive oil flavour with a good amount of garlic. These will wonders for your taste buds and nothing for your sex life.

Salt content is quite high, but that really works. Good crunch, and although you can taste the olive oil, they're not overly oily which is a hard fete to pull off.
