Erdnussflips - Classic

Whenever I tell people about crisp nation, the first thing they ask me is 'What is your favourite crisp?'

Which in the UK could mean a variety depending on how i'm feeling.. Wheat Crunchies Crispy Bacon.. Doritos Chilli Heatwave... Monster Munch Flamin Hot (when they were first brought out and had some punch) Red Sky Cream Cheese & Bacon.. the list goes on...

But i'm talking from the 'around the world' section here... and these babies are probably the only crisp that will get a 10 on this site. They are the holy grail of the crisp world.

I get them imported in from Germany on a regular basis. There's a company called Ellert who do something similar (available in tescos) but they're overpriced and really not up the standard of Erdnussflips as they are a little dry.

Erdnussflips are not the crisp of a healthy person, they are fatty trashy and come in massive packs - that even if you're on your own you will finish within 20 minutes.

They are basically peanut flavoured wotsits. Except that the crunch is more than in wotsits, but they are the same size and shape. They are covered in oily peanutty goodness and are the most addictive snacks i've ever set my eyes upon.

If you ever get the chance to be in Germany - look out for these bad boys and you will never regret it.

Chippy - Garlic & Vinegar

From the Philippines (but you can get them from www.approvedfood.co.uk)

It's funny how over there you have the standard crisp flavour of spice.. and then the flavouring on top.

So this flavour is actually garlic, vinegar and spice. Not the kind of crisps you eat before a date. Saying that, the garlic isn't too full on - which I was dreading.

The vinegar is nice and sweet, which is lucky because the spice is quite prominent here and would become quite a spicy crisp without it.

The actual crisp is a dense crunch, which tastes a little cheap to me (similar to the Bingo crisps I found in Dubai) but not so much that's it's put me off.

I like the tang in these crisps and am quite glad the spice is there as just the garlic and vinegar would not suffice and become quite a gruesome flavour.

5/10

Blair's Death Rain - XXX HOT Habanero

I'm not going to try and be a man and pretend these didn't hurt. They did.

The first sensation is a thrill, the flavour so extreme it must release endorphins. You could easily munch through half the pack thinking - yeah I can actually deal with these.. they're quite nice.

Then you get the aftermath. 20 minutes after eating these and i'm still sitting at my desk sucking on a lemon sweet holding a mouthful of water like Mr Bean holds a goldfish (see 1 min 20 seconds into this and you'll know what I mean)

These came from America but you can get them on ebay, so if you have a death wish.. get on that.

Still, a great crunch from the crisp, and a great initial flavour, but expect some serious tears of pain.

mmm! Another Swedish delight here.

Basically like skinny wotsits.

Well seasoned (as in wotsits are insanely cheesy, which is why I love them) Good strong flavour and a non-cheap-crisp crunch.

I can't stop licking my fingers!

Estrella - Grill Chips

Another pack from Sweden's Estrella crisps.

These ones are named 'Grill Chips' which would lead you to think they're some kind of BBQ flavour..

But apparently they're called that because they're to be eaten while you're 'grilling'.. or 'BBQING'.

I had the rest of the pack translated by a sweet and apparently they're 'potato crisps with Onion flavour'.

So - onion flavour crisps they are. A nice crinkle cut crisp with a 'crispy onion seasoning' type taste to it.

Pretty tasty! I like.

Estrella - Sour Cream & Onion

Our Swedish interns brought in their favourite - sour cream & onion.

Crinkle cut crisps with a good crunch, if a little thin (as with another Estrella flavour, Dill.)

Good flavour though, quite salty- but in a good way. More like Salted onion with a bit of sour cream...

Glad it's a share pack cos they are disappearing around the office pretty quick! Thankyou swedish interns!

Estrella - Dill Chips

We've got a couple of Swedish interns in the office this week (pictured), they've been telling me of their crisps - so I thought i'd find an importer in London and see what they're talking about. Here's where I got them from: http://www.scandikitchen.co.uk/

Big old share bag of deep ridged crinkly crisps, although they're a little on the thin side, so are quite light. Never the less, a good crisp. Dill is an acquired taste, personally I like it on a nice cooked Salmon, in massive share size form it's quite a lot of dill to take in.
They tell me it's much better dipped in sour cream or similar. I can definitely see how that works...

As a crisp I think they get a little sickly, but are tasty all the same, 5/10 on its own, but I think with sour cream it really could be ramped up to a 7/10 (maybe dill & sour cream flavour?)
