Pita Chips - Presunto Defumado (Smoked Ham)

Once again, this is some subtle flavouring from the Pita Chips people. But these aren't bad.

There's an immediate smokiness that lands on your taste buds, with a sweet after-hit of ham. I just wish it wasn't such a strain to taste it, as these are on their way to being pretty good. 

The best of a disappointingly bad bunch from Pita Chips, I could happily polish these off with a cold beer. 

A very respectable 7/10

I had high hopes for this flavour. They have the essential components of a good pizza, but it feels like they forgot to add any flavouring to these - I can't taste a thing. Surely there's been a mistake?

If I hold on giving a score maybe Pita Chips will send me a fresh pack with the flavour included?

For now, these are just plain and disappointing.

Pita Chips - Alecrim (Rosemary)

Pita crisps that I've had in the past have been really dangerous. They've been thick, hard and sharp, scraping the roof of your mouth to no end. These, on the other hand, are wafer thin, with a more natural pita like texture. 

Rosemary is an interesting choice - usually to be found on gastro-pub fries, your roast potatoes or chicken, but on pita chips? I'm not sure it quite fits. 

The rosemary is definitely there, but so is a distinct cardboard-y element. All in all a bit bland. However I'm looking forward to trying their other flavours, because the texture is unique.

Lays - Beer Cheese

No surprise that these were found in America, a beer and cheese flavour "inspired by classic rock music". Sure.

First impressions: if we're running with the classic rock analogy, these are definitely more Nickleback than The Eagles. 

I love the kettle crunch, but that in no way makes up for the awfulness of this flavour. The cheese is old and musty, like it's been dropped in ale, fished out, then left on the side and forgotten about for far too long. Meanwhile the beer flavour I would liken to licking a pub's aged carpet. Not advisable.

Lays - Cheeseburger

Found in Normandy, France. I have to say, this is not a flavour I expected to find in France, that gastronomic giant of foody genius. But here we are with Lays, aka Walkers, dragging down the country's reputation with some all-American fare. 

On first sniff, it's sickly and intense - in fact, a bit gag-inducing. However, on first taste, they're quite sweet and pleasing. They have something of the Big Mac flavouring about them, with sweet onion and tomato overtones.

Definitely not getting a beefy flavour from these, but I think I'm ok with that. It's not a million miles away from a Walkers Prawn Cocktail - it's that sweet tomato sauce shining through on the palette, and I don't mind it. 

It's like Cheese and Onion and Prawn Cocktail had a wild menage-a-trois with a sweet caramelised shallot, and here's their love-child. 

Not what I was expecting, but let's give it an 8.5/10.

Bret's - Pesto au basilic

Pesto is a flavour that I've often dreamt of; every time Walkers brings out a range where they ask for new flavours Pesto (and Chicken Satay) have been at the top of my list. But, I've never come across them, until now. 

These crunchy, ridged chips de la France really have done Pesto justice. They've got the flavour just right, with the right amount of intensity, without being overbearing. 

Pesto can be quite an oily substance, so I'm surprised they've achieved that basil-y flavour hit without being too greasy. 

Entirely more-ish, they get a 9/10 from me.
