Kettle Chips - Maldon Sea Salt Flakes (CHEFS SIGNATURE)

New range from kettle chips - chef's signature. Maldon sea salt flakes.

These chef signatures should be pretty interesting. All selected flavours by Chris Barnard.

But to start off with something pretty simple - fancy sea salt. I'm not really sure how you could class this as a 'curated seasoning' - essentially, it's putting salt onto a crisp, which is hardly breaking the mould.

I have to say, for a crisp, solely based on its salt flavouring, these could be salty! I'm never going to knock the kettle chip's crunch and oil taste, it's great. But really, if they'd gone and got a chef to create a signature collection, I'd be expecting something more than the ingredients being potato, oil and salt.

Ten Acre - When The Pepper Cracked

Another new flavour from ten acre, and both have included pepper.

This one is cracked black pepper - pepper in its rawest form. It's a flavour I really enjoy.

Not too intense. Not overly tangy to start with but they pack a great after taste. Awesome crunch, good oil level.

I think I'm going to give them 8/10  Yup.

Ten Acre - The Secret Of Mr Salt

Ten Acre do a classic ready salted - and they do it well.

I always knew they would, they already have the awesome crunch level with low greasiness down to an art form - all it needs is the correct amount of salt... which it really does.

With a plain salted crisp you really get to have a proper insight the potato and oils used on a crisp.. and I'm really happy announce that they're of good quality and are really moreish!

Now as you'll know - I rate classic flavours with the highest rating of 7 and these definitely deserve that number.

Ten Acre - When the Chilli Got Sweet

So Ten Acre do sweet chilli...

Damn these have amazing crunch, it really is a wonder that they don't a grease level in the hundreds.. but they're pretty dry.

I have to say, maybe it's this particular packet but i'm not getting enough flavouring here. It's pretty scarce! Still it could just be the packet I've so i'll try to review the actual flavour as best I can from what i'm picking up on the palette.

It tastes quite like a peppery chilli, even though there isn't black pepper in the ingredients - it definitely has that kind of tang to it, topped off with a little sweetness. I think these would probably be very good if only there were more flavouring. Send us another Ten Acre?

For now I can only give 7/10 i'm afraid.

Ten Acre - When Hickory Got BBQ'd

Next up in the Ten Acre range - we have a hickory smoked BBQ.

BBQ is a flavour that so many crisp makers have got wrong time and time again by making them too sweet which in turn can make them quick sickly.

Ten Acre have gone for a much more smokey a flavour here, which have a nice deep paprika/cayenne pepper hit to it, not spicy but warming and intense. There is a subtle sweetness to it as you'd expect from BBQ but not overdone. Again the crunch level is great, they're not greasy and the flavouring is even.

A really great full on BBQ flavour. SO IMPRESSED. So is my little Buddy apparently - he can't keep his eye off them!

Ten Acre - How Chicken Soup Saved The Day

I met these guys on a lovely autumnal day down on Brighton seafront where they were selling their treats and giving tasters to the public.. little did they know that there was a connoisseur amongst the crowd who left with the whole range ready for judgement.
Here are the first flavour up on trial, and straight away I can tell that they although the crisps are a little curly - they have been cooked to perfection for maximum crunch. This is a good start.

I have to say I'm not a massive fan of Walkers' chicken flavour crisps - they were always the ones left at the end of a multipack so I tend to shy away from chicken flavour.

But these really do hit chicken in the right way - as a comforting soup. A chicken soup is naturally pretty salty which is why I think this works so well as a crisp flavour. Not sickly, great crunch and a moreish salty chicken flavour.. not bad ten acre, not bad.
