Crunch is good as the crisp is thick, still a little oily.
Flavour: a little over salted and the vinegar is super sour, not overly offensive but not in my good books.
Sorry boyos.

So... Welsh crisps. They've kept their range very simple and gone for the 3 classic flavours. Unfortunately my packets arrived pretty crushed in the post, dare I say this but - they could do with a little more nitrogen in them to help this from happening! But i'm pretty happy with them even though they're in a thousand pieces, crisps seems to be thick enough to have a good crunch, maybe a little greasy but not offensive like real crisps . Not overly salted and spread evenly over the pack. I'm not one to give a high score for the standard classics, so this is pretty high for ready salted. 7/10 I was pretty excited when Tyrell's got in contact last month to let me know about their new tortillas range, Tyrells have definitely made a good name for themselves in the crisp world and I was sure that they could not fail here. And they haven't. A great crunchy corn tortilla, done the english way, a strong cheddar with caramelised onion. Really deep flavour, with a sweet tang from the caramelised onion. The packaging is fun, I like the 'alternative five-a-day' on the back, come in a good share size and they are also asking for suggestions for new flavours (i'm definitely getting involved in that!) 8/10 Wow. Now that's how to do cheese and onion well!! Kent Crisps have pulled one out the bag here. A classic done well, really full of flavour... very cheesy. And the Kent Crisps crunch is just perfect, maximum crunch, not oily. So it's been up and down for the Kent Crisps range, but the classic cheese & onion & sea salt were done really well, the others had flavour lacking, which can only be excused by the amazing crunch. 7/10 Over and out. So apparently they won a 'Taste of Kent award' this year for these crisps. I'm not convinced, the beef is not coming through enough and is a little sickly to be honest. Quite like the ale flavouring but it's not enough for me to be purchasing another packet. It's the novelty of having beer in a crisp, but nothing further. Still great crunch from Kent Crisps, but flavour-wise they could take some lessons from hula-hoops in beef flavouring. 4/10 Noo!!! Another dissapointment from Kent Crisps! The lush images on the packaging, the nice write-ups on the back, the thick crunchy crisp - all gave so much promise... But they've overdone the flavour again, the vinegar is very very sour and the crisps are caked in it. Salt content is also pretty high. If you had a cut on your finger - it'd be stinging right now. Still going to hold out hope for the rest of the range, but so far i'm all vinegar-ed out! 2/10 Wasn't sure what to expect from my first Kent Crisp, with the flavour being Oyster & Vinegar. Can't say i'd ever been a fan of oysters but it was definitely worth it for the novelty. They sure do taste like something from the sea, as the salt content is massively high, can't say that I can taste much of a fishy taste here.. there is a huge amount of flavour here - but it's very much salt & vinegar... too much salt and too much sour vinegar. But the actual crisp itself is good, very thick with crispy jacket sides. So, if were more oyster-ey i'm sure I wouldn't be giving it a great review, but as it is it's still not doing it for me, way too much salt & vinegar. Crisp has good promise so looking forward to the rest of the range. 2/10 Quite an interesting new flavour here. Heres is a description of Lancashire sauce Which sounds pretty good as a condiment, and it turns out is very good as a crisp flavour. Kind of worcestershire sauce like, but maybe a bit more subtle. It's got an indian influence (includes curry powder) but it's not spicy, it's sweet. Really enjoyed these, go out and try! 8/10 A tasty (but not sweet) vinegar (made by Ellsey?) and the right amount of salt. They've done salt & vinegar proud. I've also just noticed on the back on the crisps they stamp it with when it was cooked and who it was cooked by. This one was by Robert. Thanks Robert. That's a nice touch I think, each crisp packet has had a different name stamped on it. Much more of a personal approach to crisp making, they're obviously quite proud and so they should be, with a crunch that good. 7/10 |
