Third packet into fairfields range and I'm starting to get an idea of what they're about. All their flavours are subtle. Not over seasoned, and seemingly pretty natural. Cheese & Chives are another example of this. Looking at the crisp, half of them have the edges of the potatoes on, the seasoning is not a strong colour, the herbs are quite obviously visible (while licking my fingers it looked like i'd dipped them in a jar of dried herbs from the kitchen.) If you find crisps have a bit too much flavour and are too full on, fairfields are for you. The 'non descript' cheese from the farms local to them has a good non-intense flavour but cheesy enough flavour, the chives (mixed herbs) add a nice touch. Personally, I prefer flavours that a little more daring so it's only 5/10 from me. 'Potato flavoured Potato' This review needs to start with the word Why? Just seems a little pointless, are they sold for less money? Nah. Personally, I get nothing out of this.. there is no flavour - well apart from Oil. They could be named oil flavour (and i'm not talking about the tasty walkers one offs 'olive oil' flavour from their mediterranean range back in the day) i'm talking plain sunflower oil. A boring crisp, for a boring palette. 2/10 'Subtle Pepper' Black Pepper crisps I find are usually way overdone - you're left with a burning mouth from too much pepper, but in fairfields case - they've used the exact amount. Still a nice peppery tang, but not overloaded. This is my first try of the fairfield range and i'm pretty happy with the crunch you get from them, not overly greasy but a good solid crunch. 7/10 'Back to Form' New to the UK, This more what I'd expect from a good brand like Kettle Chips. A nice sweet flavour, not so spicy at all. Quite similar to the old Asda Tangy Salsa nachos (which is the only supermarket brand crisps I'd consider as a worthwhile crisp, which of course they don't do anymore) 8/10 |
