Nim's Fruit Crisps - Apple & Strawberry

Another post from Cal, the fruit crisp reviewer...

Being a keen fruit lover I decided to give Nim’s fruit crisps a second try after the now infamous disaster of my encounter with their Orange and Melon crisps. Call me foolish, but I like to give things a fair trial. It is with a heavy heart that I can now report that the Apple and Strawberry fruit crisps are at best, only marginally better. They don’t have the bitter flavour of their orange and melon crisp cousins, but they are equally dry. I think that it is more likely that some people out there would take enjoyment from this flavour, but it is definitely aimed at the type of health food junkies who wash down multi vitamins with bitter fruit smoothies rather than eating the fruit in its pure unadulterated state as intended by nature. Again this crisp is not even slightly crisp and I also think it is fair to say that leaving the core and the pips in does not make this snack moreish as the write-up on the packet suggests.

Nim's Fruit Crisps - Orange & Melon

I'm not a fruit crisp lover, so I hand all my fruit crisps over to someone who can appreciate them. Unfortunately it doesn't always turn out for the best...

Nim’s Orange and Melon Fruit Crisps sound interesting, smell horrendous and look very much like potpourri. I was hoping that the similarity to the dried plant and fruit material commonly used to fragrance the homes of the elderly would be just a visual one, unfortunately for my now dying taste buds these ‘crisps’ which incidentally are not even crisp – taste a lot like a handful of dusty old potpourri. Rarely have I sampled anything claiming to be food that is this inedible. I don’t believe for a second that anyone including the manufacturers would say that they enjoy eating these fruit crisps- some might endure eating them for the presumable health benefits of air-dried crisps made entirely of orange and melon. The tag line of ‘Fruit Re-invented’ should be changed to ‘Fruit Made Infinitely Less Tasty Than When Consumed In Its Fresh Original State’ – a little less catchy perhaps, but much more honest. Avoid!

Perry Court Farm - Air Dried Apple: Sweet

I have come to the personal conclusion that fruit crisps are not for me, and thought it unfair to slag off a whole genre of crisps, so I have assigned a 'fruit crisp connoisseur' in my absence...

These natural air dried apple fruit crisps are really tasty. As someone that likes crisps, but also wants to stay in shape these are a great discovery. They have a really good crunchy texture with a great apple flavour. The crisps are vegetarian and 100% apple so genuinely a pretty healthy snack at less than 70 calories per bag. I'm looking forward to trying Perry Court Farm's other fruit crisp flavours!

8/10
