Ten Acre - When the Chilli Got Sweet

So Ten Acre do sweet chilli...

Damn these have amazing crunch, it really is a wonder that they don't a grease level in the hundreds.. but they're pretty dry.

I have to say, maybe it's this particular packet but i'm not getting enough flavouring here. It's pretty scarce! Still it could just be the packet I've so i'll try to review the actual flavour as best I can from what i'm picking up on the palette.

It tastes quite like a peppery chilli, even though there isn't black pepper in the ingredients - it definitely has that kind of tang to it, topped off with a little sweetness. I think these would probably be very good if only there were more flavouring. Send us another Ten Acre?

For now I can only give 7/10 i'm afraid.

Corkers - Sweet Thai Chilli

As I sit here in Crisp Nation HQ, the skies outside are blue & the sun is shining.
I'm hopeful for this summer to be a great one, one with BBQs a plenty, where you're 110% sure that someone will be bringing big old share bags of crisps and soaking up the excellent flavours of new crisp makers that are making their mark on the UK market.
Sure in 10 minutes it'll be grey and hailing - but for now I'm feeling pretty hopeful.

Corkers have really impressed me. As an independent crisp maker there's a lot to learn, a massive corporate beast to fight against, and many subtle flavouring techniques that make all the difference. So to see Corkers do so well fills me with British pride.

Their crunch is unparalleled. Their flavours are right on.

Here they've perfected a not too sweet, sweet chilli. Sure I'd like to see them chucking in double the amount of flavouring - but the essential ingredients are there for a great flavour. A peppery paprika and a herby finish. Just tip a little more in and i'll be sound as a pound.

Kettle Chips - Sweet Chilli BAKED

Second installment of Kettle's Baked crisps and you know what - nowhere near as bad as Cream Cheese & Chive.

Mainly as they're a little more greasy - a whole 2 calories more. It's still a thin limited crunch crisp with a dry aftertaste, but the chilli is nice and brings an army of saliva to the party.

Still way too dry for my liking.

Phileas Fogg - Indonesian Style Crackers Aromatic Spices & Sweet Chilli

Well these new crisps from Fogg are certainly full of flavour!! Really intense spices and herbs with a nice warming chilli aftertaste. Really like the crackers themselves, like a nice fresh prawn cracker should be, hate it when they're stale. Great crunch but they feel light. It's the flavour that shines here, look at the list of ingredients...
Coriander, onion, ginger, lemon, lemongrass, red peppers, garlic, leek, red chilli pepper amongst many spices.

Moresome and Awesome.

Jack Pots - Sweet Thai Chilli

Fairfields have already done one of the best sweet chilli's ever (see here) so I was pretty intrigued to see what they'd change here in their Jack Pots range...

It's definitely different from the other ones, with a lot more emphasis on the chilli rather than the sweetness. So you have to be able to take some spice to eat these.

Luckily I can, and I like them. Not as much as the fairfields range ones, but in a different way. It's nice to have a good kick of spice every now and again and these definitely pack a good amount of punch without making you cry. It's lick your fingers good.

Pipers - Biggleswade Sweet Chilli

Strange that sweet chilli has become one of the classic standard flavours for a UK crisp company to make nowadays.

I'm not complaining, sweet chilli is a damn good flavour.

This sweet chilli however, despite being bright red from being covered in flavourings is pretty bland.
Not too spicy, not too sweet, not too impressive.

I get hints of what could be a great sweet chilli crisp, but I think they can do better.

Fiddlers Lancashire Crisps - Lancashire Sweet Chilli

An interesting take on sweet chilli here. Not so sweet and the chilli flavour has quite an indian influence to it. Which tastes good in its own right, just maybe the flavour needs renaming.

Within the flavouring ingredients I can see soy sauce, garlic, tomato, cumin, parsley, chilli, dried Lemon juice, paprika extract & fennel.

So it has a nice deep flavour, but it's just not sweet chilli. Give it a rename and i'd be a lot less disappointed. It's got a way to go before it lives up to Fairfield farm's sweet chilli (see here).

"Sweet Chilli perfected"

Wow. I'm pretty blown away by fairfields here. They've gone full out on flavour, and done it really well. Really intense sweet chilli, leaves a great tang in your mouth, the crisp has the perfect crunch, & it's not overly spicy.

Go and buy these crisps!

Kettle Chips Tortillas - Sweet Chili Salsa

'Back to Form'

New to the UK, This more what I'd expect from a good brand like Kettle Chips. A nice sweet flavour, not so spicy at all. Quite similar to the old Asda Tangy Salsa nachos (which is the only supermarket brand crisps I'd consider as a worthwhile crisp, which of course they don't do anymore)
